Portia Moemedi: Dreams in Post Apartheid South Africa

Full name: Portia Moemedi

Age: 21

Nationality: Black South African

Profession: Student

Hobbies: Sport, scrapbooking, wine touring and surfing the net

I’m currently studying at the University of Stellenbosch doing a Bsc in Sport Sciences, and hoping to do honours in Biokinetics. I was born in the Kalahari – Kuruman- but we moved a lot. I currently live in Stellenbosch where I study. I love a good challenge and I’m as ambitious and dedicated as they come. No matter how big a challenge is,  I’m always ready for them !

Motto: Life is not life if there are no cupcakes or wine!

On South Africa:

Being a young adult in a post apartheid South Africa is a challenge. This rainbow nation’s colours are not all bright and beautiful. Yes we got over the apartheid issue but unfortunatly our generation has other issues to face. Being a young adult in a post aparthaid SA means we have to face challenges such as povety , quality of education , AIDS , gender equality , unemployment and corruption. The people who fought the fight for apartheid are old now, so we have to take over and fix our problems in our country. These are problems that will need time and work, it is not expected to go away very soon.

World Aspirations:

I dream of a world where a man will look at me and see me as his equal – not just a (WOMB)man but as a woMAN as well.

I dream of a world where poverty is just a word in the dictionary , a world where people don’t have to worry about clean water and a world where I can go drop my kids at the mall and not having to worry about crime.

Being a young adult in a post aparthaid SA means we have to face challenges such as povety , quality of education , AIDS , gender equality , unemployment and corruption.

My aspiration is to have a fulfilling life where when I am 60 years old, I can look back and feel happy about the richness of it all. I want to live a life where I have been able to travel across the world and experience different people and cultures. A life full of learning and knowledge which I have used to makes others life better. A life where I hope to find a loving companion and give my parents the respect and comfort that they deserve.

I want to achieve my dreams while simultaneously earning the respect of the people around me.
